Quick tip to eliminate dandruff

Merry X’mas to all of you.  Suhaga (Borax) comes in handy here. Take 5 grams of Suhaga, 1 tbsp of Yoghurt (Dahi) and 1 tbsp of Coconut oil. Put the Suhaga on a flat girdle/pan and heat it. It will splutter and flare up. When it has flared, remove, cool it and crush it into a fine white powder. Mix the Suhaga powder with Yoghurt and Coconut oil and apply it directly onto the scalp. Allow it to dry and then wash with a mild, herbal shampoo.

Apply some Sweet Almond oil after bathing. Repeat the remedy once a week, every week for 6 weeks. The dandruff should never come back again.

Two major causes of dandruff are stress and constipation. Keep a check on those and it should never occur in the first place.

More tips to combat Chilly Winters…

Thought, I should post more tips for you this winter season :

a) Rasnadi Choornam - You can get this easily from any Indian Grocery Shop.  After every wash of your hair, take a pinch of this powder and massage it on the crown of your head. It should prevent rhinitis, cold. You can even sniff some of this powder (it will prevent irritation and inflammation of the inner linings of your nose).

b) Somehow if you have already contracted a cough/cold, try taking Thaleesa Patram Choornam, or Sitopladi Choornam with a teaspoon of Honey twice a day - this is also available from any Ayurvedic shop or Indian grocer in India or USA.

c) Make your own herbal decoction : Boil 4 glasses of water, with handful of Holy Basil (Tulsi), and 1 teaspoon of crushed black pepper-corns. Add some Ginger juliennes and a pinch of Turmeric to it. Boil till the quantity is halved. Strain, and drink it with 2 teaspoons of Honey (Please do not add Honey while it is boiling, Honey shouldn’t be boiled).

d) Take steam inhalation with tulsi leaves or with Eucalyptus oil in water to relieve sinuses/congestion.

Merry X’mas !

Wine can dissolve Stones…

Wine in moderation is never too bad ! Two studies have shown this. The two significant studies are by Curhan and colleagues at Harvard Medical School, the first in 1996 in the American Journal of Epidemiology involved over 45,000 men and the second in Annals of Internal Medicine involved 81,039 women. The analyses were taken from data generated in the national physician and nurse surveys.

The findings in both were quite specific. In the 1996 male study, kidney stone risk was reduced from a reported 240 ml (8 oz) daily servings in this order : wine 39%, beer 21%, tea 14%, decaffeinated coffee 10% and straight coffee 10%. Importantly, the risk was increased 35% for apple juice and 37% for grapefruit juice drinkers. So over this very large cohort, the type of fluid mattered significantly. The second study published two years later found similar specific advantages for women in a similar beverage choices. Reduced risks were: Wine 59%, both coffees 10%, and tea 8%. Akin the earlier study, risk increased 30% for tomato juice and 44% for grape juice. Orange juice was a wash.”

People suffering from Eczema, should try a whole body massage with cold-pressed almond oil, apricot oil or sesame oil followed by paste of chick-pea flour and then let it dry. Once dry, scrub it off and take a luke-warm water bath. It will certainly help.

Fear of Withdrawing the Medication…

Its a very common question and found a lovely answer to it.

Ques : I am afraid of stopping or withdrawing my medication when I start taking natural supplements. How can I balance between both of them ?

Ans : Dr. Saunders answers (and I quote from Barton Publishing’s Blog) - “Some drugs you can just stop without any detriment, and others need to be weaned. It depends on the drug, the dose, and the length of time taking it. This is the advantage of having a medical doctor help with the specific problem. Many depression medications cause discomfort if stopped suddenly. However, even in this case it’s highly variable.”

“You mentioned the realproblem — fear. Those who believe the drug company propaganda will have a phobia of not taking medications. If you teach the truth, the fear goes away and many are willing to take responsibility for their own health and will automatically stop taking them. The second important part is to have a replacement. Not necessarily a pill, but something that fills the need. Voltaire said, “The difference between man and the animals is man’s need to take pills.” OK, use a pill for the anxious who need to “do something.” A more useful thing long-term is to change the lifestyle (exercise habits and food choices) which changes the whole organism and improves life and health. ”

I hope this helps.
